The mom who loves MUSIC

Remembering the Smokey Mountain days!

Smokey Mountain

"Kailan, kailan, kailan mo ba mapapansin ang aking lihim,
Kahit ano'ng aking gawin di mo pa rin pansin..."

During my yesteryears, Smokey Mountain was a famous singing group, who popularized the songs Kailan, Can this be love?, and Better World. I was five years old then when I first sang in front of a huge audience in Tanghalang Michiko in Mendez, Cavite. I sang their rendition of "Can this be love?" wearing tattered clothes, leggings, and sneakers, as they were known for wearing the same outfit.

The members of the original group were James Coronel, Geneva Cruz, Jeffrey Hidalgo, and Tony Lambino, and they were conducted by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab. I remember having their first-album in the form of casette tape (I don't know if kids nowadays know this), and it was a Minus-one intended for me and my sisters because we were always asked to perform and sing in any school programs.

Nakakamiss. Lalo na kung Batang 90's ka. If you're a pop fanatic, you will definitely enjoy their music. In fact, I still listen to their songs whenever I feel the urge to go back to the Philippines - parang nasa Pinas pa rin. There were Filipino singers nowadays that had revived some of their songs, and gave justice to them. MYMP is one of them, at talagang ramdam mo pa rin ang gustong iparating ng kanta. I know a lot of Pinoys would hope that Mr. C would create a new group that resembles the old Smokey Mountain. Pero tama na. Kailangan ko rin daw magmove-on.
